December 20, 2018 update:

It took Microsoft less than 24 hours to finally release the new preview of Windows 10. The 18305 edition is therefore available and includes the famous tool Windows Sandbox. As Microsoft explains on his blog, this new edition of Windows offers many other new features, such as a simplified Start menu during a new installation or a new look of the clipboard history. But it is this Sandbox function that holds all the attention. To download the 18305 edition, nothing could be simpler: from Windows 10, click on the Start button, then go to Settings > Update and security. Click on the tab Windows Insider program, then press the Start button, in order to join the program for testing Windows 10 pre-versions. Note, however, that this kind of beta is not always bug-free, and that it is preferable to use a daily finalized version of the operating system. Beta, on the other hand, can be used on a second partition, as a secondary system.

Windows Sandbox is Microsoft’s newest toy. This module allows run any program in a fully secure environment. Enough to launch software with questionable origins without compromising the integrity of the operating system. This feature of Windows 10 should make its public appearance in the next operating system update (19H1), which will be released in spring 2019. In the meantime, Microsoft is revealing some specifics.

Windows Sandbox comes in the form ofa full instance of Windows 10. “This is a temporary, isolated office environment in which you can run unreliable software without fear of lasting repercussions for your PC,” said Microsoft on the site. Techcommunity. The main advantage of this technology, which does not require any third-party software, is that the program that we run inside the Sandbox will never contaminate the rest of the operating system. You can install anything you want, and when you leave the Sandbox, you find your environment as you left it a few minutes ago, without leaving any trace of a software installation. And when we relaunch the Sandbox, we are again faced with a completely blank system. This functionality makes it possible to dispense with virtualization software or specific Sandbox software in certain cases.

The tool is intended for build 18305 of Windows 10, which is not yet available. Windows Sandbox will only work under Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise and on 64-bit processor.
