How to activate night mode on Android

The night mode function is available on many Android smartphones. This convenient feature allows you to apply a filter to the screen to reduce eye strain and reduce the blue light emitted from your smartphone screen. In this article, we will tell you how to enable this feature, whether or not it is a default feature.

More and more users are experiencing eyestrain issues from the time spent in front of screens. This is not so surprising if we consider our modern lifestyles (television, computer, smartphone, tablet…). Eye protection mode, as Huawei calls it, is an effective way to reduce blue light. Blue light has a negative impact on sleep because it disrupts the production of melatonin, an essential sleep hormone.

How to activate night mode as a default setting

Aware of the importance of this mode, Google has decided to integrate it in new versions of Android such as Android Nougat and Android Oreo . As long as your phone has reasonably up-to-date software, you can activate night mode in the same way.

To activate it, simply go to Settings > Display> Night lighting. You can also configure it to have the night light mode automatically turn off at certain times.

On phones from other manufacturers

Other manufacturers don’t wait for the next Android update to introduce a Night Mode or Blue Filter on some of their phones. This is the case for Honor, Huawei, Asus, OnePlus, Samsung… In general, all you have to do is access the settings ( generally at the display) or the shortcuts to activate it.

Get the Night Mode feature with an app on the Play Store

So you’ve looked at your current phone and it doesn’t seem to have a night mode? This can happen, especially if you are using Android One or storing Android, without any whistles added by Google or the manufacturer’s skin. Don’t worry though.

At the moment, there are a number of apps available on Google play that allow you to achieve the same result. One of the most popular today is Blue Light Filter. It has the same functionality that you find on Android, with more new options such as filter color selection from seven available shades, home screen shortcuts, on-screen notification widget and an activation schedule.
