In February 2012, Jonathan Christensen, former executive of Skype, was leaving the company he joined in 2006. This Wednesday, the former head of innovation at Skype unveiled his new project: Wire. This is a new instant messaging application available for both smartphones and on Apple computers.

Wire offers a very simple interface and quite pleasant, unified on Android and iOS. Once the application is downloaded, it allows you to define your avatar, which will also serve as a wallpaper for the people with whom you are chatting. You can also allow the app to access your Address Book to find contacts who have already registered with the service. However, it is not possible to send an invitation by email for a contact to subscribe to Wire.

Once an invitation to chat has been sent, the interface is very simple. Wire obviously offers you to send written messages, by pressing the cursor at the bottom of the screen, but also offers some multimedia functions. By sliding the cursor to the right of the screen, you access the sending of Pictures, to the function ofaudio call or the possibility of pinger your contact, like in the great days of MSN Messenger.

Yes Wire does not currently offer the possibility of logging in using an existing account on another messaging system like Hangouts or Facebook Messenger, the application is very simple and well designed. Videos Youtube or sounds from Soundcloud are displayed directly in the application. There is no doubt that more functions are already in the pipeline. This is particularly the case for a web version of service, scheduled for ” soon “.
