The difference between a pc and a phone is that the number of software out of store immensely majority in the pc. For android I do not know any proprietary or free software out of store which is downloadable.

This is not what is missing, it's been a while now since I flash my OnePlus 3 without Google Services and therefore without PlayStore:

– F-Droid * – ApkPURE * – ApkMirror * – Evozi Apk Downloader * (downloads .apk from PlayStore links) -UpToDown * – ApkPlz * – Aptoide (with less reliable sources, I don't use it)

* All those with a canvas have reliable sources.

Here, I update my rom every month on the latest Android security patches, I don't have a PlayStore or Google account and that doesn't prevent me from using my phone as before.

You have to hardened the kernel too, rather put the SeLinux policy in Enforcing (su> setenforce 1) or SeLinuxModChanger which you do if you are not used to a terminal, deactivate unknown sources after installation of the .apk (s), deactivate l 'Android Debugging in the options for developers, a small antivirus that has no dependencies on Google Services like Eset Mobile Security to scan the system from time to time and that's no need for Google to scan device.

I have all the applications I used except Net-C but hey, dare I connect to Firefox for that, ProtonMail works very well without Google Services except for notifications it needs but it does not interfere in the use of the application when you don't have them installed.

For Android I do not know any proprietary or free software outside the store that is loadable.

Here are all the safe sites where you can download outside the store, no need for the PlayStore, that's what Google wants to make you believe, to be dependent on them and their services, to even say YouTube the application is stupid, I go through Firefox 51.0.4 under Android AOSP 7.1.1 to watch the YouTube videos, no account needs and the top I can change the screen or applications, the music or the videos always continues to run in the background while 'with the Youtube application the Screen Off Playback is nonexistent, like what.

This is if one day you need an application outside the store, you can do it.
