Wi-Fi offered on older Freeboxes

Image 1: Wi-Fi offered on old FreeboxesFree will now deliver all its boxes with the Wi-Fi function. The old V4 model still delivered to non-unbundled subscribers will be equipped by default with a Wi-Fi card.

Slower than on the Freebox V5

Until now optional, the Wi-Fi card in PCMCIA format of Free will now be delivered automatically with the V4 versions of Freebox. The non-unbundled subscribers concerned previously had to pay 27 euros to obtain it.

From an old concept, the Freebox V4 only supports the 802.11g standard, about five times slower than the 802.11n which has become widespread since. Free has not planned an offer allowing former subscribers to obtain it. According to the operator, “everyone who wanted a wireless connection has already bought the card”.
