The social network WhatsApp has just announced that it has passed the 700 million user mark, a record for this service which is only available on mobiles.

Jan Koum, founder of WhatsApp, proudly announces on its Facebook profile this new record of 700 million users per month on its messaging service. This impressive score is actually beaten, in the field of social networks, only by Facebook and its 1.3 billion active users. WhatsApp claims however an activity at the top, with more than 30 billion messages exchanged daily.

The year 2015 should still be a good year for the application: from a simple messaging service, it could become a real Internet telephone service, allowing the arrival of calls, planned for this year. Likewise, the latest rumors about the application point to a possible Web version of the service, making it accessible from a PC.
