What is the best connected alarm?

Connects, wireless and simple

Verdict:

The first two advantages of this kit are obvious: the generous number of accessories supplied (control panel, 90-decibel siren, motion detector, two opening detectors, keyboard) notwithstanding a competitive price; and atypical design, although this criterion is subjective. Another quality, namely simplicity, manifests itself during the installation phase and then daily use. As such, the four-key keypad to arm or disarm the alarm is invaluable. We also appreciate the abundance of functions and settings (activation times, sharing alerts with loved ones, etc.) as well as the backup battery, which activates the siren even if the power is cut. Emergency relay point however, but it is a lot to ask for such a price. Two small faults are noted: the absence of an Ethernet port on the control panel and the quantity of CR123 batteries to power the accessories: 10 in total!

Verdict:

Mega-camera or mini alarm system? Somfy Protect's One + is an object that tries with success – a hybridization of these devices. It is therefore a 1080p camera which inherits the good ideas of the Security Camera from Myfox (now owned by Somfy), including the battery, the internal memory (if the link with the cloud is cut) and the motorized shutter which preserves the privacy of residents. It is also an alarm system, which integrates a motion detector and communicates with the IntelliTag opening sensor. There is also a handy remote control to activate or deactivate the set. The same feeling of user-friendliness prevails during the installation and daily use of the One +, thanks to a neat and comprehensive mobile application, which even makes it possible to subscribe to a remote monitoring offer. The absence of an Ethernet port is however regrettable.

Verdict:

This Safety Kit, part of the Bosch group's Smart Home offer, shows two immediate qualities: quick and easy installation, help with QR Code, sketches and educational explanations, as well as the degree of finish of the accessories . The motion detector is notably matched with a small bubble level, a tear-off contact and an animal immunity / anti-crawl setting (the individual does not escape detection, even if he slides under the detector). Good equipment therefore, but which is paid at a high price (79.95 additional motion detector). Intuitive and very graphic, the application shows the same care. Some functions are missing (Presence mode, email notification, etc.), but these details will undoubtedly be corrected in future updates. A system to be monitored especially by home automation enthusiasts.

Verdict:

Signed Honeywell, this pack benefits from the main advantage of a professional quality alarm: thanks to its backup batteries and its SIM card, the control panel is able to respond to the disturbances of the electrical network or a malicious act which blocks Internet communication. Another interesting and practical element is the badge reader, supplied with two magnetic badges. Its use would have deserved to be better documented, because the paper notice is too succinct. The installation, via the manufacturer's web portal, however poses no problem. It is a pity that the mobile application is not at the same level: it allows you to change the status of the alarm, retrieves the images of the motion detector with photo sensor (optional) and that's about it… Notifications push are absent and communications with the server sometimes slow and hazardous. Updates are needed.

Verdict:

Diagral is a big name in the alarm, which can be felt both in the price and the quality of the equipment. This system benefits from NFA2P 2 shields certification and a double-frequency, guarantees of robustness. The badge reader keypad and the central siren backed up by three batteries (and an optional GSM module), with customizable voice information, also attest to the seriousness of this offer. Alas, the installation, complicated, could put off users who are not familiar with the alarms sold in DIY stores … which undoubtedly makes a whole lot of people. Still pass for the IP box, but for the rest, the mobile application does not detail the procedure enough, in the absence of written instructions. A detour via the Diagral website, with its videos, is recommended, if only to install a set of batteries in the wireless keyboard! And even afterwards, some functions (Presence On?) Are not explained enough. An update of the application is hoped.

Verdict:

From Devolo's home automation offer, this kit is one of the cheapest in this dossier. The content is in return a little light: a motion detector and a siren, available as an option, will be judicious complements. This system, devoid of battery and emergency relay, will nevertheless retain certain limits in a context of security. The installation procedure, although passing through a web portal, is flawless and supplemented with didactic videos. The same cannot be said of usage: with its many possibilities, rules and scenarios, the interface is likely to annoy the least informed user. Configuring a simple scenario (if movement detected then triggering a siren) becomes a real headache! For the rest, sharing alerts and the possibilities of notification by SMS are pleasant functions.

Verdict:

This system, which dates back a few years, has aged well enough for those who are satisfied with an affordable self-monitoring product which is easy to configure. It contains the necessary equipment for a small apartment, including a base which can only be installed vertically. The detectors are quite aesthetic, as is the mobile application, which offers several interesting settings: activation time, Presence mode, programming, scenarios (with the optional intelligent socket)… It is however difficult to envisage applications home automation, in the absence of interactions with services like IFTTT and because of the DECT ULE protocol, not widely used. Other versions of this system exist (M and L), with more accessories and even a camera for the L version.

Year after year, some 230,000 burglaries occur each year in France, the peak being recorded during the summer period. Theft of valuables, damage caused by the break-in, furniture sometimes vandalized … This msaventure is often traumatic for the victims. One can hardly imagine having to barricade oneself at home or paying for a weapon of security guards. The alarm is then the most obvious and reassuring solution to be warned of an intrusion and act accordingly, in order to prevent or limit damage.

The alarm systems that Toms Guide has tested are mainly characterized by three points. First, they are connected to the Internet, and therefore controllable via a web portal or a mobile application. It's hard to do without our time, and the manufacturers' marketing departments have understood this. Secondly, the detectors and other accessories work wirelessly, so without major work that would require reconfiguring the electrical circuit. Tenants will be happy to hear about it. Thirdly, and it is a direct consequence of the previous point, almost anyone can install such a system without the intervention of a professional.

But the offer is disparate, both in terms of price and functions. Small self-monitoring systems will do the trick. They are the work of network specialists (Devolo), telephony (Gigaset), Internet of Things (Nest, whose alarm is still pending in France) or new technologies in the broad sense (Chinese Anker, who is also preparing an alarm offer). Other alarms are all great. More complete, more resistant but also more expensive, they come from industrialists recognized in the security sector and more generally from the habitat (Diagral, Somfy, Bosch ..), who are now putting themselves on the page. So an alarm, but for what needs, what performance and what budget? Here is our decryption and the models we recommend.
