Decidedly, Apple is struggling to extend the influence of CarPlay without jolts, much like Apple Pay. The firm has notably censored one of its strongest partners in this field with Volkswagen.
While the German manufacturer wanted to do a wireless demonstration of CarPlay at the CES in Las Vegas, one of its officials acknowledged that Apple was blocking the procedure.
"We wanted to do a demonstration of CarPlay wireless, but the owner of the techonology did not allow it."
Apple should beware. Toyota announced a decade ago its intention to opt for Ford's open technology, SmartDeviceLink, rather than CarPlay or Android Auto. Apple would be well advised not to get in the way of its partners in this relatively closed sector.
