Using the SD card as the default storage for photos seems like the best way to avoid overloading your mobile storage if you take too many photos. You can surely do the same even if you don’t take a lot of pictures, but it won’t make much difference.

You don’t need to try to find such options elsewhere, just through the camera app. The camera app allows you to use the SD card as the default storage for photos. However, not all camcorder applications offer this capability, nor does every manufacturer like to provide this option.

In this article, we are going to learn how to use SD card as the default storage for photos on stock camera apps and third party camera apps.

Note: Not Not all manufacturers allow changing the default storage of photo position on SD card.

Steps to use SD card as default storage on Samsung devices

  1. Launch the camera app.
  2. Look for the settings icon as highlighted in the image above and tap on it.

3. You will now see the screen for camera settings. As you scroll down, you will see the option for ‘Location of storage “.

5. Just tap on it and you will have to choose the SD card. Proceed to select the SD card as the storage location.

Now all the photos you take from video camera app (Samsung) will be stored in SD card.

Optional method: Enable adoptable storage

In bad luck, if your camera app doesn’t include a storage location option. You can enable Adoptable storage and configure SD card as internal storage (works on Android 6.0 and later). To get started, you can refer to the instructions on Motorola’s FAQ page (it works the same for all other phones).

However, note that when your SD card acts as internal storage, anything that is intended to be stored in internal storage resides on your SD card, not just your photos.
