We decided to write the tutorial but we strongly advise against following it because the Jailbreak is semi-untethered type. This means that you can reboot without using a computer however, once started very few tweaks will work. Also it is possible to remain blocked on the apple, in this case it will be necessary to use Utility TetheredBoot. Note that the baseband will not be updated, since it is a custom firmware installable via iTunes.

iOS 4.3 GM is now available since March 02, 2011, we will describe in this tutorial the method for Jailbreak iOS 4.3 GM Semi-Tethered on iPhone 4 using PwnageTool.

Remember that iOS 4.3 GM is reserved for iPhone developers.

Pre-requisites

Tutorial

Step 1

Download all the prerequisite files.

2nd step

Connect your device to USB

Make an iTunes backup of your device to avoid any problems.

Stage 3

Before launching PwnageTool, you need to modify 2-3 little things. Right click on the pwnagetool icon and then “Show package contents”:

Go to the folder Contents / Resources / FirmwareBundles / and paste the file iPhone3,1_4.3_8F190.bundle in.

Launch PwnageTool

If a copyright popup appears, just click OK

Step 4

You find yourself on this interface

Choose [Mode Expert] at the top left, and select your device. A click on the blue arrow at the bottom right takes you to the next step.

Step 5

Then begin the search for the firmware 4.1 of your device.

As a reminder, you must have downloaded this via the site cited above.

Select it and click on the blue arrow.

Pwnagetool cannot find the firmware, the solution. If you can’t find the firmware, it’s because by downloading your download manager to change the firmware extension from IPSW to ZIP, you just have to rename the extension to IPSW.

Step 6

You then come across this menu:

Select General

Click on the blue arrow at the bottom right.

Step 7

So begins the customization of the firmware.

Attention very important!

  • If you use an original SIM card, i.e. delivered with the iPhone when purchased. Example. You have an Orange iPhone and you use an Orange SIM card so you should not tick the box “Activate the iPhone”
  • If you use a SIM card which is not original, that is to say not delivered with the iPhone at purchase. Example. You have an Orange iPhone and you are using an SFR SIM card so you must check the “Activate iPhone” box

Click on the blue arrow to go to the next menu.

In this menu, simply choose the cydia packages you want to pre-install. That is to say that the packages will be installed even before you launch cydia 😉

You are actually returning to the start menu. Simply click on Generate and then on the blue arrow.

Normally, PwnageTool then asks you where the software will save your custom firmware.

Then begins the construction of the custom firmware:

You should then find the custom firmware on your desktop.

Step 8

Launch Universal Ramdisk Maker and install it:

Step 9

Launch iTunes.

Just go to the tab of your iPhone.

Hold the ALT key and click the button [Restaurer] from iTunes. Then choose the firmware generated by PwnageTool and let your iPhone restore 😉

How will I reboot with TetheredBoot Utility?

Step 1

Unzip the downloaded file in the prerequisites named “tetheredboot.zip”.

2nd step

Copy the custom firmware previously created to another folder and rename the extension from “.ipsw” to “.zip”.

Unzip it and go to Firmware / dfu / and recover files kernelcache.release.n90 and iBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu.

Copy these files to a folder called “tetheredboot” where you will place the tetheredboot utility:

Turn off your device and launch the Terminal. You must enter the following commands:

sudo -s

Enter the administrator password. You have to consider that the word [Chemin] is the path where the folder ” tetheredboot “. Enter the following command:

[Chemin]/ tetheredboot / tetheredboot [Chemin]/tetheredboot/iBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu [Chemin]/tetheredboot / kernelcache.release.n90

The terminal should work until you ask for DFU. To do this, just follow these instructions:

  • Hold the POWER + HOME button for 10 seconds
  • Release the POWER button while holding the HOME button
  • If the screen remains black afterwards, your iPhone 4 is in DFU mode

The terminal should respond and work, and your device should reboot.
