Tutorial – Configure device location via MobileMe

findmyiphone Tutorial Configure device location via MobileMe

With the wave of new features that accompany iOS 4.2 (I refer you to the article by K-Rim published only a few hours ago), iDevices users will be amazed when they discover the free “Find my iPhone”

As you know, this useful feature was originally contained in the MobileMe app. However, the use of “such a gold mine” required a subscription (79Euros per month). For the most novice, know that MobileMe also allows you to synchronize your different Apple brand devices and benefit from a storage space of 10go accessible anywhere in the world.

Synchronization means that you can match emails, calendars or even photos on your machines.

There are certainly alternatives present on the Cydia Store, but it is appreciable to have an application “signed” Apple.

After “the theory”, let’s approach the practice or rather how to get this so-called function for free:

Step 1

To be able to use this new service, you must upgrade your device to 4.2 via iTunes (currently, the servers are unreachable)

2nd step

Just go to Settings> Mails, Contacts and Calendars

Stage 3

Click on “Add an account” then on “MobileMe”

It will then be necessary to register your ID of your iTunes accounts (ie your e-mail address) as well as your password. A few moments after registering, check your mailbox to verify the account 😉

Finally return to Settings => Mails, Contacts and Calendars and activate the search and location function of the iPhone.

Then simply download the “Find My iPhone” application to take full advantage of its functionality and, for example, locate your iPod Touch from your iPhone.

Note : Unfortunately, this function is only compatible with the iPhone 4, the iPod Touch 4, the iPad… as approved by this screenshot.
