Trade negotiations between the United States and China are actively continuing. But Donald Trump has already said that the current status of Huawei in his country would not be discussed. The Chinese manufacturer will remain on the American black list.

The U.S. Department of Commerce earlier placed Chinese giant Huawei on a blacklist earlier this year, effectively preventing U.S. companies from trading with the company. It also prohibits Huawei from purchasing important components, or using Google’s Android operating system. The government has, however, also indicated that some US suppliers may waive this ban, but only when there is no risk to national security.

Huawei now excluded from negotiations with China

The problem is that currently none of the 130 license applications received to date have been approved. The exact definition of “threat to national security” is also somewhat vague. Donald Trump has so far been open to including the automaker in talks with China. But his position seems to have changed since he now refuses to include Huawei in the ongoing negotiations. He added that the automaker was a major security concern for the U.S. military and agencies.

Of the 80 billion dollars spent by Huawei last year on components, 11 billion were spent on American companies such as Broadcom, Intel or Qualcomm. They have also asked for a relaxation of the restrictions imposed on the Chinese giant in order to limit the impact on their income.
