This morning, Acer presented to the French press its new range of TimelineX and its Aspire Ethos.
Thin and light
Evolution of the 2009 version, the TimelineX 2010 goes from the Intel ULV processor to Core i3, i5 and i7. Previously, you could have integrated graphics processors from Intel or at most one HD4330 from Ati as a graphics card. Now, Acer is playing the 3D card thoroughly with Radeon HD5650 and HD5470, DirectX11 compatible cards and able to run more or less recent games. Autonomy has also been increased. Acer now tables between 8am and 12pm on battery. As an option, consumers can have 3G and Bluetooth. The finish is aluminum and magnesium. Four models will be on display. Their diagonals will be 11.6, 13.3, 14 and 15.6 inches. they will weigh 1.4, 1.8, 2.2 and 2.4 kg respectively. Available in May, they will cost the most expensive 1000 euros for the 15.6 inch.
Performance and sobriety
Next to these TimelineX, Acer also presented its Ethos, a high-end laptop, replacing desktops. Angelo d’Ambrosio, of Acer France, describes his product as a “simple, efficient, robust and refined” computer. They will also be equipped with Intel CoreiX processors. The Ethos graphics card will be even more efficient than the Timeline since it will go as far as the Radeon HD5850. Two models will be available in 15.6 and 18.4 inches, respectively in 720p and 1080p. On the sound side, Acer wanted to prove that we could have a laptop and good audio quality. Thus, there is a subwoofer on the 15.6 inch for 2.1 and 5.1 on the 18.4 with Dolby Home Theater v3 technology from Acer.
The Ethos in 18.4 inches will be available in early May while the 15.6 inches will arrive a month later. Note that this model will range between 1000 and 1700 euros depending on the configuration chosen.
