Zoom passes version 5.0 via a new update which concretizes many promises of the firm around the security of its platform. Including stronger encryption and passwords to join conversations.
Zoom became the most popular videoconference application on the market since the start of containment. This real spotlight has nevertheless revealed a few security holes the firm promised to quickly correct. By passing version 5.0 Zoom fixes a number of them – even if, as you will see, everything is not yet perfect.

Zoom 5.0: there is still work
The biggest change this version brings is without a doubt encryption. This goes to standard AES 256-bit GCM. This should help make the content of conversations more difficult for malicious actors to access. However, it is not still no end-to-end encryption.
This means that hackers can still intercept data at various points in the Zoom network – as long as a new flaw is discovered, for example. Professionals have at their disposal a new appreciable option: it is now possible to choose by which country your calls pass.
What cut short the fears of some experts facing the fact that some calls go through China. Furthermore, to prevent anyone from joining a group conversation, these are now password protected by default for most users, including Basic, Pro, and Education account holders.
Cloud registrations also require a default password. Accounts administered by an organization can define the level of password complexity required for its conversations. To take security one step further for businesses, waiting rooms are provided by default when creating a conversation.
This allows you to check one last time who joins the group. The administrator of a conversation also benefits froma new security menu which brings together all the options of this category, previously dispersed in various menus of the application.
Zoom explains that the new version will be deployed from next week. To install the Zoom update, all you have to do is go through the Play Store or the App Store on iPhone.
