The new Mac Book Air is here!

This is the day of big announcements at Apple. In addition to announcing the major update to its Mac OS X Lion operating system, the Cupertino company also announced the arrival of the new Mac Book Air.

Apple’s new superfine computers are now equipped with the latest dual-core Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors, high-speed Thunderbolt I / O technology, a backlit keyboard and Mac OS X Lion.

"Portable, affordable and powerful, the MacBook Air is the ultimate notebook for everyday use," said Philip Schiller, senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing at Apple. “The MacBook Air incorporates our most advanced technologies and is perfectly adapted to Lion, particularly with the new Multi-Touch gestures, full screen apps, Mission Control and the Mac App Store.”

The MacBook Air is available in 11 and 13 inch models which can be easily slipped into a briefcase, a handbag or a satchel. The MacBook Air's high-strength aluminum unibody case is just 0.3 cm thick and 1.7 cm thick. Thanks to flash storage, the MacBook Air powers up instantly and offers fast data access, improved reliability and incredible energy efficiency. The 11-inch model weighs 1.06 kg and offers up to 5 hours of autonomy, while the 13-inch model weighs 1.32 kg and offers up to 7 hours of autonomy.

Equipped with the latest dual-core Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors, the new MacBook Air is up to twice as fast as the previous generation and has all the power needed to process photos and videos, make FaceTime calls, play games games and work on documents and presentations. The MacBook Air also incorporates an Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor and offers up to 4 GB of 1,333 MHz memory.

Thunderbolt technology offers expansion possibilities that MacBook Air users have not had access to before. With a single cable, users can connect high-performance devices and the new Apple Thunderbolt Display, the ideal docking station for your Mac laptop. Thunderbolt technology can easily adapt to support existing connections like FireWire and Gigabit Ethernet.

The return of the backlit keyboard.

The MacBook Air has a full backlit keyboard and a glass Multi-Touch trackpad. Designed to make typing more comfortable and easier, the backlit keyboard uses a sensor that automatically detects a change in ambient light and thus adapts the keyboard brightness to any type of environment. The Multi-Touch trackpad supports Lion's new Multi-Touch gestures, such as dynamic scrolling, touch or pinch to zoom on a web page or image, and swipe left or right to flip a page or flip 'one full screen app another.

The MacBook Air also has a high-resolution, backlit LED display that, while incredibly thin, has the same resolution as much larger and bulky screens. Lion integrates more than 250 new features for Mac, including Multi-Touch gestures; full-scale support for the app system; Mission Control, a view of all the elements currently running on your Mac; Mac App Store integration; Launchpad, new base camp for all your applications; and new Mail app completely redesigned.

The 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air models are available today from the Apple Online Store and starting July 21 in Apple Stores and at Apple Authorized Resellers. The MacBook Air 11 inch 1.6 GHz is available in two models, one with 2 GB of memory and 64 GB of flash storage offered at the recommended retail price of 979 incl. Tax (809.09 excl.
