The Apple Watch Series 4 brings some new features compared to the Series 3. The price difference makes you hesitate? To help you make your choice, let’s see together the differences between the last 2 watches: the Apple Series 3 and Series 4.
Prices for Apple Watch Series 3 and 4
Let’s start with the most common question “How much does it cost?” It’s Apple and we all know you’re not going to get your new watch for $ 100.
With the release of the Apple Watch Series 4, the Series 3 has seen its price reduced from € 299 to € 429. It will depend on the size of the case and the Cellular option.
As for the Series 4, the price is increased compared to its predecessors when they came out, it can vary from € 429 to € 559 for the aluminum finish. The variations here also depend on the size of the watch, the Cellular option.
However, if you want your Apple Watch Series 4 to be made of stainless steel, you will have no choice but to have the GPS + Cellular functionality, GPS alone is not available. The numbers go up and it is then offered between 699 € and 749 €.
If you want to dress your Apple Watch a little better than with the included strap, know that all the straps from Series 0 to Series 4 are compatible.
These prices do not include the watch with the Milanese bracelet or the Apple Watch Hermès which can go up to € 1,549.
The difference between Apple Watch Series 3 and 4 on the wrist: weight, dimensions, screen
As you may have noticed, the Series 4 no longer offers 42mm and 38mm cases, but 44mm and 40mm.
Note: for the bracelets, those provided for the 44 mm are compatible for 42 mm (and vice versa) and the same is true for the 40 mm and the 38 mm.
The case itself is not much bigger, but the screen has less border which increases its display area and screen definition. This is why the new dials are no longer provided.
We are going to talk about pure figures.
The different screen definitions:
- The Apple Watch Series 3: 272 x 340 (38 mm) and 312 x 390 (42 mm);
- The Apple Watch Series 4: 324 x 394 (40 mm) and 368 x 448 (44 mm).
You will understand, the size of the case influences the definition of the screen.
The different dimensions of the case:
- The Series 3: 38.6 x 33.3 x 11.4 mm (38 mm) and 42.5 x 36.4 x 11.4 mm (42 mm);
- The Series 4: 40 x 34 x 10.7 mm and 44 x 38 x 10.7.
If you can not imagine this difference in screen between the Apple Watch Series 3 and 4, @andreplaut has made a comparative and representative diagram which should help you.
Regarding the weight of the case, the Series 3 varies between 26.7 g and 34.9 g and the Series 4 39.8 g between and 47.9 g. This only concerns the case, you must take into account the bracelet you choose to have a total weight.
Let’s talk a little more technical.
Apple decides to replace its dual-core S3 processor with another dual-core, the S4, but up to 64-bit 2 times faster than its predecessor. The Bluetooth went from 4.2 to 5.0 while Wi-Fi remains on 802.11 b / g / n 2.4 GHz.
The Series 4 sensors have also changed since there is an electric heart rate sensor to perform an ECG. It also has:
- A 2nd generation optical heart rate sensor;
- A fall detector thanks to the improved gyroscope and accelerometer;
- A digital Crown with haptic feedback for better sensations;
- More powerful speakers coupled to a microphone moved in order to increase call performance.
All versions of the Series 4 have 16 GB of storage unlike the Series 3 which can be 8 GB or 16 GB depending on whether you choose GPS or GPS + Cellular.
You are a little more enlightened. So, did you manage to make up your mind? Do you prefer to wait for the possible release of the Series 5 in September? It is true that at first glance the price difference between the Apple Watch Series 3 and 4 may be shocking, but the innovations are very present.
