Analysis of software embedded in electric cars You’re here foreshadowed the arrival of a wireless induction charger in the Model S and X. The first vehicles to be equipped with this have just been delivered. On Reddit, Subabad shares his surprise when he discovered that his smartphone recharges once slipped into the slot in the center console. The owner is probably of American origin, so it is not known whether vehicles delivered to Europe and elsewhere in the world also have them. While waiting to learn more, he presents the device to us in video.

Tesla running out of batteries soon?

Tesla Model X and S inherit a wireless charger, but also lose a USB port

As expected, the induction charger is compatible with all smartphones supporting the Qi standard. It only delivers 7.5 Watts, a relatively low power when compared to the 30 W of the latest wireless chargers from Xiaomi for the Mi 9 Pro 5G. However, it remains sufficient, and the solution has the merit of integrating perfectly into the interior design of the vehicle.

Unlike the chargers available separately on the Model 3, it only supportsone smartphone. We also note that Tesla chose the simplest solution to implement, but not necessarily the most satisfactory for its customers. Rather than reviewing the electrical wiring, the manufacturer has chosen to connect it “hard” to one of the two USB ports already available. They would probably have preferred to keep it, this may be the case in the next vehicle evolutions. Hopefully Tesla engineers have thought of this since the design of the Model Y expected for next March.
