Friday we reported to you the indiscretion of Le Figaro which announced that Canal + was studying the possibility of embarking on ISP activities in the Overseas Territories (“Canal + ISP for the TOM?”). So we can clearly see it, Canal + wonders if a merger with SFR, another subsidiary of Vivendi, would not be beneficial to its activities against the Orange ogre.
Canal + promotions among competitors
At the very beginning of the summer, Canal + launched a vast promotion operation aimed at future subscribers to the operator Free: take advantage of Canal + Le Bouquet for one year for only one euro (“Free Canal + offer / The bouquet for a euro ”). Bet won for both partners since Free has simply won 45% of new Canal + subscribers this summer. To the detriment of course of Orange, which sees itself thus exceeded on this niche and therefore weakened.
With the experimentation in time that FAI in the TOM, Canal + could thus establish a quadruple play offerOffer from an ISP (Internet Service Provider) which includes, in addition to the Internet subscription, a fixed telephone line and a TV decoder, or even… with SFR. The now parent company of Neuf could thus include by default in its offer the rich programs of the encrypted chain. And why not even rebrand these “Canal +” subscriptions? An opposite strategy from Orange but identical in all respects in its objectives: to provide content and container.
