Elon Musk’s business, SpaceX, would have completely banned the use of Zoom, the videoconferencing application, because of security and confidentiality flaws. An email was sent to the employees to inform them of the new measure.

In this time of health crisis, more and more employees are now teleworking. Professional meetings and conferences must therefore be held remotely via the Internet. For this reason, video conferencing applications are booming, so much so that Zoom has become the most downloaded application from the App Store in 77 countries, including France. However, its use is not without controversy. It was recently at the heart of a major privacy issue since the iOS version automatically sent users’ personal data to Facebook. More recently, US authorities have warned users of potential security concerns after two vulnerabilities were discovered. These allowed hackers to take control of the webcam and microphones of Zoom users on macOS.

Telework: software, Internet connection, hardware, how to organize with the means at hand?

SpaceX completely bans Zoom Video Communications

According to a Reuters report, SpaceX would therefore have sent an email to all of its employees yesterday: ” we understand that many of you used this tool to facilitate conferences and meetings. Please use other means of communication such as emails, SMS and phone calls ”

It would therefore not have specified to its employees what are the secure alternatives to replace Zoom. Unless, from the point of view of Elon Musk’s society, there is no reliable means of communication for meetings and conferences. And yet, it’s complicated to imagine having a remote meeting with several colleagues without using a videoconferencing tool. Sending emails is not as productive and quick as being able to chat live.
