If you don’t want to use iCloud for backing up your contacts, you can use your email address. In this case, you can find them on another device that is not an Apple device.
See you in Settings> Contacts> Accounts.
Instead of choosing iCloud, choose the email account you want to backup to. In the case presented below, the chosen email account is Gmail.
Thereafter, activate contacts to start synchronization and backup of contacts.

Back up iPhone contacts with iTunes
To back up and synchronize your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch contacts with iTunes, you must connect the device to your computer and follow these steps:
Click on the device once it appears in iTunes.
In the section dedicated to Settings of the device, click on Info. Then check Synchronize contacts.
In the lower right part of the iTunes application, you will see the button Synchronize. Click on it and your contacts will be synchronized and saved on iTunes.
Warning: All your contacts will be saved locally on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Your contact information will be updated on your device each time you connect it to your computer, but will not be available in the cloud or on a device that is not synced with iTunes on your computer. Therefore, this backup method is not the most recommended.
