The Apple Watch is a success, but to be convinced, we should not count on Apple, which is careful not to give any official sales figure.
IDC has just published its latest report on the world of smartwatches in 2016, and if Apple had record sales, the apple brand lost its second place because of Xiaomi.
Apple doubled by Xiaomi in 2016
In the last quarter of 2015, Apple had 14.1% market share, with 4.1 million Apple Watchs sold. A year later at the same period, the apple brand sold 500,000 additional watches, with 4.6 million units in total, but more than 13.6% of market share.
To explain this unpaid increase in terms of shares, we must note the incredible progression of Xiaomi at the same time. In one year, the Chinese manufacturer went from 2.6 million copies for 9.1% of market share, to 5.2 million for 15.2%, an increase of 96.2% in one year, when Apple had to settle for a much more reasonable increase of 13% over the same period.
At the same time, Fitbit is in free fall with -22.7% in one year, reaching only 19.2% of market share in the last three months of last year.
