Thanks to its new range ofiPhone, Apple obtained 79% of the global profits of smartphones in 2016. The market generated $ 53.7 billion in profits, including $ 44.9 billion for the apple brand, according to a study by Strategy Analytics.
Last year, Apple held 14.5% of the global smartphone market, and the brand ranked second behind Samsung (20.8%). The South Korean giant, meanwhile, generated $ 8.3 billion in profit in 2016, or 14.6%. The 2 manufacturers are followed by Huawei (1.6%), Oppo (1.5%) and Vivo (1.3%).
By holding less market share than Samsung, the Cupertino company still managed to get more profits. How? ‘Or’ What ? Apple sells extremely expensive smartphones, which is not the case in South Korea. The iPhone 7, for example, is available from 769 euros. The apple brand does so only in the high end.
Samsung, for its part, is diversifying its products by targeting all ranges. Its phones thus display more reasonable costs. The fiasco of the Galaxy Note 7 also played against the Asian manufacturer in 2016. Last year was a successful year for Apple, thanks in particular to the popularity of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
