Samsung reportedly started production of the Galaxy S10’s Infinity-O screen

During its developer conference a few weeks ago, Samsung unveiled several screen projects with different designs revealing a U-shaped drop (Infinity-U), a V-shaped drop (Infinity-V), a hole (Infinity -O) and even no cutting (New Infinity). According to information from our Korean colleagues from ETNews, the production of the Infinity-O screen has already started.

During its developer conference a few weeks ago, Samsung unveiled several screen projects with different designs revealing a U-shaped drop (Infinity-U), a V-shaped drop (Infinity-V), a hole (Infinity -O) and even no cutting (New Infinity). According to information from our Korean colleagues at ETNews, production of the Infinity-O screen has already started.

This technology is called HIAA (Hole In Active Area) and is the answer found in the notch fashion popularized by Apple. This solution allowsincrease the useful display area. ETNews informs us that Samsung has finished adapting its screen production lines by adding laser cutters allowing drill these holes in OLED screens that will be installed on the Galaxy S10.

According to several sources, the technology required is complicated enough to give Samsung exclusivity of the solution for a relatively long time. However Huawei for its part, has already started teasing a similar solution. Rumor has it that the future Samsung Galaxy A8S has a Infinity-O LCD screen. An LCD screen requires a better mastery of the technology because of the necessary backlighting. A source says that the screen would not be produced by Samsung but by the Chinese company BOE, a company which apparently works in concert with Huawei on its future folding smartphone.
