At the end of December, we mentioned the acquisition of the Palm brand by the Chinese group TCL, known here for the exploitation of the Alcatel One Touch brand. We expected a return soon, something confirmed at that time by the existence of the site www.mynewpalm.com indicating "Coming Soon".
At the CES show in Las Vegas, the takeover was formalized by TCL, via a statement released on Tuesday.
The offices of the new Palm must be installed in Silicon Valley, but the manufacture of the various products will be ensured by the parent company, we are counting on smartphones calibrated for the United States and made in China.
The TCL group would then operate a brand that enjoys a positive image with users and could therefore better break into north america. We can also make the parallel with Lenovo who is trying to break into the same market with the Motorola brand.
Should we believe in the return of Palm? Why not, when we see what has become of the Alcatel One Touch brand here, once in the hands of TCL.
