Qualcomm to Pay $ 1 Billion in Unpaid Apple Rebates

Businesses Qualcomm and Apple have been in conflict for two years, initially on the issue of negotiating license fees but now with an extension to several related fields.

Apple-QualcommApple had claimed in 2017 $ 1 billion unpaid remittances to Qualcomm, which had suspended these payments after the Cupertino firm participated in an antitrust investigation into Qualcomm's business practices.

The San Diego group believed that the interruption of remittance payments for the use of its electronic components was justified by the fact that Apple was bound by its commercial contract not to attack its partner.

A San Diego federal judge decided otherwise in a preliminary ruling (which will have to be confirmed later) by considering that the participation of Apple in the investigations of the federal authorities was not in contradiction with the commercial agreements tied between the two companies and that Qualcomm should well pay the unpaid discounts.

While Apple welcomes this preliminary decision, Qualcomm does not budge by continuing to claim that the Cupertino company made false statements to the authorities to trigger "wrongful action against Qualcomm".

The supplier of electronic components will be able to express their point of view in April, with the key being a request for financial compensation from $ 7 billion for the failure to pay its royalties and for spying on its modems for the benefit of Intel.
