As we know, the Playstation 5 has been a hit since its launch in the United States on November 12, 2020, and in France since November 19, 2020. Sony confirmed it a few days ago without giving any figures, the PS5 is the best launch in the history of the manufacturer. On this Friday, December 11, 2020, the NPD Group institute has just communicated the statistics of the American video game market for the month of November 2020.
According to these data, Sony can claim to have achieved “the biggest launch month for a console in US history in terms of quantities sold and dollar amounts generated ”. As Mat Piscatella, analyst for NPD Group, points out, consumer spending on gaming consoles has never been higher in November 2020, with a record high of $ 1.4 billion.
The DualSense and the Switch are in turn a hit
“This strong growth is due to the launches of the Playstation 5 and the Xbox Series. Since the start of the year, hardware spending has reached $ 4 billion, 34% more than in 2019 ″, he adds. According to NPD Group, the PS5 is therefore the console that sold the most during its launch month, and the one that brought in the most money over this same period. No wonder, when you know that the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition are sold respectively at € 399 and € 499.
In addition, sales of DualSense, the PS5 controller, have also taken off according to NPD Group, with the controller realizing “the highest unit and dollar sales for a month-long console launch in US history ”. If the PS5 has therefore obviously exploded all records in the United States according to NPD Group, the Nintendo Switch is also doing remarkably well since the console has remained at the top of sales for 24 consecutive months, with a total of 6.92 million Switches sold in the US.
As a reminder, there is unfortunately a good chance that stocks of PS5 will not be restocked before the end of 2020. This is particularly the case in the United Kingdom, where several stores have guaranteed that they do not were not going to have a PS5 until 2021.
