production postponed to the second half

The rumor of the preparation of a new MacBook Air has been in the air for a few months and the logical assumption is to wait for an announcement for the developers event WWDC early June.

But if it remains possible on this date, production will not start before the second half, according to sources among suppliers.

No reason given, even if shortage of a component is a likely cause, but observers note that this would be in line with a review of Apple's strategy that has reduced production of other products like iPhone or HomePod.

The site Digitimes notes that this postponement will complicate the task of subcontractors and assemblers, some having already built up component stocks for production initially planned from the second quarter, while the compressed calendar over the third quarter will complicate the recruitment of sufficient labor during the second part of the year.

The new MacBook Air should offer a Retina display and use a latest generation Intel Core processor. It should also be more affordable than previous editions with a price around 899 dollars (instead of 999 dollars), or even lower, around 799 dollars.
