On the night of February 10 to 11, 2015, whoever made himself known by the online pseudonym of Bibix was the victim of swatting at his apartment of the time in the Val-de-Marne department. In the middle of the DayZ video game broadcast live on the Twitch platform, Bibix received the muscular visit of the police.
The police were alerted by a telephone call to a murder at the Bibix apartment which allegedly stabbed his partner. A hoax evoking the practice of swatting across the Atlantic which consists in causing the intervention of police forces, in particular at the home of an online player, by evoking serious facts.
This swatting made in France is today severely punished for its authors. Le Parisien reports the decision of the criminal court of Créteil with on the bench three teenagers who were sentenced to six months suspended prison terms, eighteen months and two years in prison.
The hoax was carried out via the online platform ViolVocal launched in 2011 by the hacker Ulcan. Following this affair, Bibix – whose address was published online – had to move. The most heavily convicted individual had " created and paid for the account used for swatting with usurped bank codes ", writes Le Parisien.
