The dramatic situation linked to the Coronavirus could have real repercussions on the production of AirPods. The endemic epidemic affecting China has already had serious consequences for the productivity of Chinese companies.
In Apple's plans, there was an increase in the production of cutters, given the still high demand, but the company could soon put on hold the activities of three of the main cutter manufacturers.
Luxshare, Goertek and Inventec were forced to stop producing AirPods until Monday. And the takeover will only guarantee a production capacity of 50% compared to the usual demand for components. Component stocks are currently only sufficient for the next two weeks. Beyond that, the activities of other component suppliers will have to follow the assembly rates estimated by Apple. The company had ordered 45 million units for the first half of 2020. However, given the production risks, current stocks will be destined for official online sales channels and Apple stores, which will put all third-party manufacturers in one greater difficulty which will now have to face a shortage of available units.
So if you've been planning to buy AirPods 2 or AirPods Pro, it's time to jump in. The remaining stocks are likely to run out very quickly. Then you have to wait a long period of unavailability … until the Coronavirus is mastered.
