Pornhub removes millions of videos to fight against revenge porn and child pornography

Millions of videos have disappeared from Pornhub. Specifically, these are videos that have not been posted by verified users. After the controversy launched by the New York Times last week, which denounced the platform’s hosting practices, it had no other choice to remove the content on which it did not Control.

The New York Times hit hard when, last week, it denounced the presence of child pornography videos on Pornhub. The newspaper thus questioned the conditions of publication on the platform, which it considers too lax. Moreover, child abuse is not the only illegal content that can be found on the site. The article refers in particular to rape and revenge porn scenes. Consequence: Visa and Mastercard blocked payments to the Porn site.

The response of the person concerned was not long in coming. The addition of content by unverified users was initially blocked. But the site did not stop there, since they are now millions of videos that have totally disappeared, again not coming from “partners”. Pornhub has made it known that all of these videos will now be audited to ensure they meet “The conditions of trust and security”.

Pornhub is forced to delete millions of videos

Pornhub has been in turmoil for several months now. Last April, a petition demanding its closure collected 780,000 signatures. The authors accused him, among other things, of hosting rape videos and his complicity with the human trafficking. In defense, Pornhub said the Internet Watch Foundation had spotted “only” 118 videos involving child abuse, against 84 million posted on Facebook.

As of today, the platform prides itself on only offering content posted by verified users, “A necessity that Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Youtube, Snapchat and Twitter have not yet implemented”, said its directors.
