Numerous reports have shown the benefits of computer gaming. These reports indicate that regular gamers learn several skills by playing their favorite RPG or FPS games. The skills include a best decision making, focused hand-eye coordination, strong teamwork and improved critical thinking skills .
To take advantage of these skills acquired by players around the world, researchers at the University of Buffalo will build an AI capable of controlling autonomous air and ground robots for the military.

How will they build the AI
Scientists will develop a military strategy game based on the 1998 strategy game Starcraft and the 2007 title Company of Heroes. They will then invite players to play the game in their labs.
While the participants are playing the game, the scientists will record every parameter of the players. This will include their decision making, hand and eye movements, and brain wave patterns. Eye movements will be recorded using high speed cameras and to monitor brain waves, electroencephalography (EEG) headsets will be used.
With the data extracted from the players, the researchers will create algorithms that will be able to control and direct a minimum of 250 autonomous drones to carry out military operations.
Scientists aim to create a much more advanced AI system who can understand the motivations of human behavior and actions. Souma Chowdhury, assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, said: “ We don’t want the AI system to simply mimic human behavior; we want it to form a deeper understanding of what motivates human actions. This is what will lead to more advanced AI ”.
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) will fund the entire project. They also posted a video (above) recently, showing how their drone swarms can conduct military raids in urban areas. The main objective of these drones will be to collect information and provide information military land units.
