Google would have a Pixel 4a in the boxes. A rumor triggered by a line of code found in the next version of Google Camera, the Google photo application.
For the first time, Google has declined this year its smartphone in a mid-range version. The Pixel 3a and 3a XL were able to position themselves despite an already crowded market. The quality of its services and especially its photo results is not unrelated to this critical success. It would therefore be surprising if the Mountain View company did not wish to transform the test with its next generation.
And this is what seems to confirm a line of code found in the Google Camera app of the Pixel 4. Not yet announced, the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are constantly leaking from all sides. The fault lies in the relocation of production to Vietnam, which seems much more likely to allow prototypes from its factories to escape.

needlefish, the codename of Pixel 4a?
Regarding the Pixel 4a, the line in question mentions a device called “needlefish” next to two others: “coral” and “flame”. These last two are supposedly the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. By elimination, the “needlefish” in question could correspond to a Pixel 4a.
Admittedly, we are still at the speculation stage, but this same code name also appeared as a reference in a document from the founder Qualcomm, suggesting that it is an Android device equipped with a Snapdragon processor. .
Google Pixel 4 XL: 90 Hz screen test on video
There remains temporality. the Pixel 3a were released last May. What would be the interest of Google to release a new generation five months later? 9to5Google, which reports the information, recalls, however, that the Pixel 3a were originally planned to be released at the same time as the Pixel 3, in the fall of 2018. Would Google therefore want to reset its calendar? Answer in October with the presentation of Pixel 4 and perhaps Pixel 4a.
Pixel 4a, but also Pixel Watch or Pixel Ultra
But there are other solutions. Behind needlefish could hide a long-awaited Pixel Watch to counter the Huawei Watch, Galaxy Watch and other Apple Watches. No tablet however, it would be unlikely. Google announced earlier this year that it will cut back on devices. Tablet projects have even gone by the wayside following this declaration.
The last hypothesis is undoubtedly the most interesting since it concerns a very high-end smartphone. Apple has its iPhone 11 Pro, Samsung has its Galaxy Note 10, Huawei is coming with its Mate 30 and even OnePlus has released a 7 Pro this year. Google would therefore be wrong to deprive itself of a Pixel Ultra, as it is called by the fans.
