Oppo presents a x5 zoom integrated into a smartphone

The Chinese manufacturer Oppo has established itself in the top 10 of the biggest sellers of smartphones in recent years and the brand now wants to be associated with the biggest in the field of innovation.

This is how the brand is currently highlighting its 5X Dual-Camera Zoom technology, a photo module that provides x5 optical zoom.

Oppo 5x

It is a double photo sensor composed of a telephoto and a wide-angle. The particularity of the set is that the telephoto lens has a focal length three times greater than the wide-angle and that it is positioned laterally, like a periscope. It is therefore a prism which allows the latter to send back the images, all of which makes it possible to avoid having a prominent photo module on the back of the device.

Thanks to the system, Oppo announces that it is possible to have a x5 hybrid zoom without any loss. To keep the images clear, the telephoto lens has an optical stabilization system (not offered by the wide-angle). In fact, there is an x3 optical zoom, the software part then responsible for processing the image to obtain the equivalent of a x5 zoom.

The brand is confident enough in its system to compare it on the show with the x2 zoom of the iPhone 7 Plus. And it is clear that the whole is rather satisfactory, no detail is lost in the software processing, and the iPhone 7 then takes a serious hit …

Oppo could offer its module to other manufacturers for their next terminals, we do not know which model of the brand will be the first to integrate it or even when for the moment.
