new design and Intel Core Kaby Lake

The group Intel stock up on new mini-PCs NUC with five models unveiled at CES 2017 in Las Vegas. They take advantage of new processors Intel Core 7th generation (Kaby Lake) and a new housing with a darker aluminum finish than before.

There are two models under Intel Core i3 (NUC7i3BNK / NUC7i3BNH), two models under Intel Core i5 (NUC7i5BNK / NUC7i5BNH) and a model under Intel Core i7 (NUC7i7BNH), with, depending on the references, compact or standard cases.

The largest enclosure (BNH version) supports 2.5-inch SATA storage media while the compact enclosure (BNK version) uses PCI Express SSDs. The configuration is also based on the presence of 4 USB 3.0 ports (2 front, 2 rear), Ethernet port, audio output, HDMI 2.0 connection, microSD card reader and connector USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 compatible (on NUCs with Intel Core i5 or i7), as well as on WiFi and Bluetooth wireless connectivity.

Note that the power button returns to the front of the new Intel NUCs, with integrated LEDs with variable colors that can indicate the current activity of the device. Intel devices now have a GPU Iris Plus with 64 MB of onboard DRAM (eDRAM).

Finally, standard boxes are announced as compatible with Intel Optane technology and will therefore be able to support the new memory 3D XPoint. The prices of the new Intel NUCs are not known but the models with Intel Core i3 are expected to be available from January 2017, while the other members of the new series will arrive by the end of the first quarter of 2017.
