By becoming one of the top five global smartphone brands, Xiaomi has made it its mission to achieve the same level of service as its main competitors in terms of updating the operating system. Helped by the many initiatives of Google that facilitate the deployment of Android updates, the Chinese firm is now a good student, even if there are still some hiccups, such as the Chinese version of MIUI 12.2.1.0 deployed in November .

Supporting this technical support policy, Xiaomi is multiplying update deployments to its installed base. After the Redmi 9 and the Redmi K30 (formalized a year ago), it is the turn of the Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro to benefit from a new version of MIUI. This is not a major version, but simply a minor patch intended to fix some stubborn bugs, optimize the interface and strengthen protection thanks to an Android security patch. This last one is dated December 2020. Within a few days, the archive might have contained the January 2021 patch.

Gradual rollout of the update

If you are the proud owner of a Mi 10T or Mi 10T Pro, you should start to receive a notification prompting you to download and install this update. As always, if you haven’t received a notification, don’t panic. The deployment is done in successive waves. If it’s not today or tomorrow, she could arrive on the weekend. In the meantime, you can always go to the menu Settings, then About phone, then Check for updates to manually initiate a check.

If you don’t do this update, that’s not too much of a problem. The one that you shouldn’t miss will allow you to migrate to the new version of MIUI, numbered 12.5. It was presented yesterday during the virtual conference of Xiaomi during which the MI 11 was formalized. MIUI 12.5 has several interesting new features, in addition to being based on Android 11. It notably includes MIUI +, to create a synergy between the smartphone and a PC running Windows 10, MIUI Notes, an enriched note-taking tool, as well as many safety-related functions. It is scheduled to arrive in beta in China in January 2021.
