Highly critical since its arrival, the new Maps application integrated into iOS has not stopped talking about it. And today, it is in a rather positive angle that it is the subject. Indeed, according to tests performed through the site Ornavo, Apple’s new mapping system would consume up to five times less data than its predecessor, in this case Google Maps. Still it is necessary that the system mapping system of Apple can be as much provided in data as that of Google, but this is obviously not the cause of this difference. Indeed, according to the same source, Apple would use for its new application vector graphics which do not need to be re-downloaded each time when displaying images and maps. As a result, the application consumes significantly less data than its competitor. To get an idea, the site indicates that the data usually downloaded by Google Maps weighs 1.3 MB against only 271 KB for the Apple system, or 80% less. Even better, according to the site, the effectiveness of Maps, when zoomed in on a map, would be 7 times greater than Google Maps.
note that Google uses vector data for Google Maps in Android but has never considered it necessary for iOS.
