machine learning at the start

A 3,540 km route with a start of the race given this Saturday from the city of Düsseldorf in Germany for an arrival in Paris on the Champs-Élysées on July 23. Some 198 cyclists from 22 teams compete on this 2017 Tour de France and make room for machine learning.

In partnership with the organizer of the Amaury Sport Organization (A.S.O.) competition, Dimension Data integrates machine learning and new algorithms into its data platform by combining live race tracking data and historical data.

This technological reinforcement will be used for predictive analysis and for example to know if the peloton will be able to catch escaped runners. There are plans to create and analyze more than 3 billion pieces of data. Among these, data from GPS transmitters under the saddles of bicycles, external data on the profile of the course, weather conditions.

The technology solution will leverage a cloud data center. The information will be made available to broadcasters, with follow-up also on @letourdata and on a dedicated website.
