Linux has more than 2% on the desktop

Net-Applications-OS-June-2016This is a first on the figures of Net Applications which is based on the data of 160 million unique visitors per month for nearly 40,000 websites. In the desktop segment which still resists it, the share of Linux users is above 2%.

Linus Torvalds' dream of one day seeing Linux impose itself on the desktop computer is still very far away, but there is a thrill that remains to be explained and whose evolution we will have to follow over the next few months.

Using Microsoft's estimate that 1.5 billion machines are running Windows, this puts the number of Linux machines at less than 34 million (still only on the desktop).
