With l’iPhone X, Apple has introduced a new technology in its range of smartphones: facial recognition. Baptized Face ID, it will only be available on the tenth anniversary iPhone. For the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, users have to settle for the traditional Touch ID fingerprint sensor.
However, things may change from next year. Indeed, Ming-Chi Kuo, the illustrious analyst at KGI Securities, thinks he knows that all the iPhone of 2018 will ship Face ID. However, this will depend on feedback from iPhone X users.
Two cases could then arise. If the public appreciates and Face ID collects positive feedback, the Californian giant will certainly integrate this technology to all its next iPhone. On the other hand, if success is not there and the facial recognition receives negative reviews, Apple may be forced to revert the Touch ID.
Unsurprisingly, however, it would no longer integrate it into the Home button. Instead, the fingerprint sensor would be placed behind the screen. As a reminder, such a configuration has already been envisaged on the iPhone this year, but the integration was not done because of the size of the modules.
