Since the iPhone 6, Apple has integrated a chip into its phones NFC. The apple brand locks it to limit its use. For the time being, this chip is only reserved for the use ofApple Pay. In a video shared on his YouTube channel, developer Elias Limneos reports that he has managed to unlock access to the NFC chip.
The developer has unlocked the chip on his iPhone 6s. He then demonstrates the success of his intervention in his video. For this little experiment, Limneos uses NFC tools. He places his phone near these devices and the device displays detection notifications.
Normally, the iPhone should not react to the presence of these NFC tools. Only payment terminals are recognized by the still locked chip. Detection allows validation of an operation with Apple Pay.
Unlocking the NFC chip should allow new applications. We could first use it for file transfer. Opening a car could for example be done using this technology without having to take your phone out of your pocket.
The developer specifies however that the manipulation is only possible on jailbroken iPhones and that a tweak should soon be available on Cydia.
