At the beginning of the month, the idea of a iPhone 8 with a Smart Connector has resurfaced following a new rumor. The feature had already been announced last year for the iPhone 7, but Apple had finally chosen not to include it. The magnetic connection would be used for charging and any AR / VR applications of the 2017 premium iPhone.
As a reminder, the Smart Connector appeared for the first time in 2015 on the 12.9-inch iPad. The system is mainly used to associate a keyboard with the tablet, but it also offers a charging function. On paper, it also allows data transfer with an as yet undetermined speed.
It’s at the Israeli site The Verifier that we owe this new rumor about the magnetic connector. Apple is expected to integrate the system into its iPhone 8 this year to facilitate wireless charging. The Smart Connector would also be involved in augmented reality and virtual reality support. A possibility that does not really excite the specialists of the brand, knowing that the performance of the magnetic connector is not incredible. The Lightning port would suffice for connection with other devices, they say.
In addition to the Smart Connector, the Israeli site predicts other new features for the future iPhone 8, including group calls with FaceTime and further integration of Siri with iMessage.
