According to a recent report posted online by DigiTimes, Apple ultimately did not choose Natural ID’s fingerprint sensor from Synapticsnor Sense ID technology from Qualcomm for the future iPhone 8 OLED. Instead, the brand decided to use its own algorithm Authentec combined with glass identification technology Privaris to succeed the Touch ID.

The solution developed by Apple for the identification of fingerprints will be manufactured by TSMC and engraved in 65nm, said an industry source to DigiTimes, adding that production of the iPhone 8 is not expected to start until September due to the new fingerprint sensor.

In addition to removing the home button, the “premium” model will be the first phone of the brand to have an OLED screen.

The next iPhone 8 will also feature a fingerprint detection device instead of traditional Touch ID technology, and will use biometric authentication systems such as ultrasound, says DigiTimes. Apple is slated to launch mass production of its two other smartphones in 2017 (the iPhones 7S and 7S Plus), which will retain an LCD screen, in July.
