This year, Apple should launch a iPhone 8 with a screen OLED 5.8 inches borderless, and on which the traditional Home button could be replaced by a function area. While some rumors point to a curved screen, an increasing number of observers are predicting a flat screen instead.
According to comments collected by MacRumors, Wayne Lam, analyst at IHS Markit, considers that Apple will do well on OLED screens for its next phones, but the brand should keep the current 2.5D format. Also according to the analyst, the iPhone 8 could see itself having a longer screen, offering a different ratio from 16: 9. In terms of display, this year’s flagship Apple smartphone would take up the concept of the LG G6. The South Korean phone has a fairly large screen that takes up almost the entire surface.
IHS Markit was one of the first firms to provide a 5.8-inch curved screen for the iPhone, notably by its analyst Kevin Wang. However, the research institute seems to have changed its position since then. Today, it announces a traditional flat display. Samsung is expected to supply Apple with OLED displays in 2017. IHS Markit and other sources estimate that Apple will use OLED technology on most of its next iPhone.
