According to Fran Shammo, chief financial officer of Verizon, the next generation of the iPhone will be available in a single model, both compatible with GSM and CDMA network standards.
Currently, the iPhone 4 is sold in two significantly different models. The first is the one we use in Europe (it is also used in the United States under the AT&T network) under the GSM network standard. The second has been sold since the beginning of this year to the US operator Verizon, which operates the CDMA network standard. note that this second model of iPhone 4 is also different from a firmware point of view: it currently works under the firmware iOS 4.2 while the iPhone 4 GSM is already in iOS 4.3.x.
To facilitate the production of the machine and synchronize its launch across the world, Apple would have decided to produce only one model of iPhone from now on, at least this is what Fran Shammo, chief financial officer of Verizon, says. It is astonishing besides that this person attached an important station at an operator, which more is partner of Apple, can communicate in this way whereas the Cupertino firm does not have the habit of letting its partners declare information to the subject of its products.
The chief financial officer of Verizon says, however, is unaware of Apple's intentions to exploit the LTE (4G) network standard.
Recall that the communication chip used in the next iPhone would be produced by the manufacturer Qualcomm. Indeed, the Asian manufacturer has developed a chip capable of operating the GSM and CDMA networks.
We discuss it on the forum.
