The iPad 9 would be covered with a screen surrounded by large and wide borders. According to a leak, Apple’s next tablet would be visually very similar to the iPad Air 3, launched in 2019. There was therefore a TouchID fingerprint reader housed in the Home button. No borderless screen or TouchID housed on the edge as for the iPad Air 4.
This Thursday, January 7, the Japanese blog Macotakara, whose information is often reliable, published an article the complete portrait of the future iPad 9. Mid-range oriented, the tablet would be inspired by the iPad Air 3, says Macotakara, citing “Information from Chinese suppliers”.
Unveiled in early 2019, the iPad Air 3 differs from the latest iPad Pro and the recent iPad Air 4 by its old-fashioned design, includingthick borders around the touchscreen and a TouchID reader. Apple would therefore once again take this traditional design, yet largely worn out.
Apple recycles the design of the iPad Air 3
The iPad 9 would be built arounda 10.2 inch screen, like its predecessor the iPad 8. Unsurprisingly, the touch screen would benefit from True Tone technology and the P3 color range. Lighter than the previous generation, it weighs 460 grams. The tablet is said to be 6.3mm thick.

The tablet would be accompanied bya TouchID fingerprint reader in the Home button housed in the lower border. By sliding the fingerprint reader on the edge (as for the iPad Air 4), Apple would however have been able to reduce the size of the borders and offer a display without borders. Probably in order to reduce production costs, the Cupertino company preferred recycle the old design of its shelves.
On the connectivity side, we would find a Lightning charging port. The latest news is that Apple will present this umpteenth mid-range tablet in March 2021. For now, the price of this new iPad is still unknown. If the iPad 8 is currently sold for 389 euros, the iPad Air 3 was sold at its release for the sum of 569 euros.
