AppleInsider reports that after about three years of market existence, the second generation iPad, which sports an A5 processor and a non-Retina display, is expected to be discontinued in the near future.
According to people familiar with Apple’s plans, the company made the decision to cut production” iPad 2, customers are resolutely turned towards more modern and sophisticated models such asiPad Mini Retina and theiPad Air.
As a reminder, the Apple iPad 2 went on sale for the first time in March 2011 and was immediately successful. A year later, when the iPad 3 with Retina display was launched, the company continued to offer the previous generation at a lower price of $ 399.
Even with the launch of two other hardware revisions (New iPad then iPad with Retina screen), the iPad 2 remained present in the range of Apple products. Its availability had left many people puzzled, suggesting that the device was still profitable for the Cupertino company.
