Previous rumors have indicated that the first major update toiOS 7, iOS 7.1, would be available in March to the general public. AppleInsider has reported that the new version could arrive around the middle of next month, March 15 more precisely.
This “unverified source”, Suggests that the release of iOS 7.1 is linked to the integration of new Mobile Device Management (Mobile Device Manager) designed to allow businesses to manage a large number of mobile devices.
In addition, the source stated that iOS 7.1 fromApple would include new “over-the-air” functionality, allowing administrators to fully manage iOS devices via an MDM server, without having to go through theApple Configurator.
Improvements to these MDM options include the inclusion of methods to prevent students from bypassing restrictions installed on school iDevices. Indeed, students in the university districts of Los Angeles were able for example to delete management profiles from their iPads.
