iOS 12.2: the American operator AT&T displays the acronym 5G E on the iPhone!

Contrary to what many Americans have believed in recent hours, no, the 5G has not been deployed on their territory. In fact, at the time of writing, 5G is not available anywhere. At the same time, appearances are misleading: on some iPhone, an acronym “5G” appeared on the upper right side of their screen.

Apple is at issue: the fact of displaying a perfectly proportioned acronym, the day after the release of a new beta update ofiOS (iOS 12.2) is voluntary. But the fault is not to be put only on the back of Apple, but also on that of the operator AT&T.

Telecommunications giant in the United States, AT&T has implemented not 5G, but “5G Evolution”. Like 3G ++, “5G E” is in fact an improved 4G which would, in some cases, achieve 400Mbps. Theoretically, the maximum speed of 4G is around 150 Mbps.

In a press release, AT&T assumes but declares that it does not want to deceive its customers, explaining that “ 5G Evolution is a first step on the road to 5G ” The operator had already marked the year 2012 by the use of the acronym 4G while the network had not yet been deployed. For true 5G, in the United States, France or elsewhere, you will have to wait at least until next year…
