iOS 12.1, macOS 10.14.1, watchOS 5.1 & tvOS 12.1 are available

Right after his keynote, Apple has released new updates for its 4 operating systems: iOS 12.1 (build 16B92), watchOS 5.1, tvOS 12.1 and macOS 10.14.1.

iOS 12.1

The final version of iOS 12.1 arrives on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch with many new features, including Group FaceTime, new Emoji, or dual SIM.

Group FaceTime:

  • Allows you to make video and audio calls with up to 32 participants at a time.
  • End-to-end encrypts your conversations to keep them private.
  • Start a FaceTime group conversation directly from a Messages group conversation, or join an active call at any time.


  • Over 70 new Emoji, including new red, gray and curly haired characters, new Emoji from bald people, more expressive emoticons, and Emoji from animals, sports and additional food.

Dual SIM support:

  • Supports dual SIM with an eSIM, which allows two numbers to be used on the same device for the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR.

Other improvements and fixes:

  • Adds the Depth Control functionality to the camera preview for the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR.
  • Improves cellular connectivity for the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR.
  • Adds the ability to change or reset your child’s Screen Time code using Face ID or Touch ID.
  • Fixes an issue where the sharpest reference image was not always selected for front-facing photos on the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR.
  • Addresses an issue that caused messages to merge into a single thread when two users were signed in with the same Apple ID on multiple iPhones.
  • Fixes an issue that prevented certain voicemail messages from appearing in the Phone app.
  • Addresses an issue that could cause phone numbers to appear without the names of corresponding contacts in the Phone app.
  • Fixed an issue that could prevent Screen Time from taking specific websites into account in the activity report.
  • Addresses an issue that could prevent adding or removing family sharing members.
  • Adds a performance management feature to prevent the device from unexpectedly shutting down, with the possibility of disabling this feature in the event of an unexpected shutdown, for the iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.
  • Adds the possibility for the “Battery status” functionality to inform the user if it is impossible to verify that an iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max or iPhone XR has an original Apple battery.
  • Improves reliability of VoiceOver in Camera, Siri and Safari.
  • Fixes an issue that could cause an invalid Profile error to appear when registering a device with an MDM solution for some corporate users.

macOS 10.14.1

For its part, macOS Mojave 10.14.1 also offers FaceTime calls to several and dozens of new Emoji to use on its Mac. The changelog in detail:

  • Adds support for group FaceTime videos and audio calls. These videos and audio calls can include up to 32 participants simultaneously, are encrypted end-to-end for privacy reasons, and can be initiated from a Messages group conversation. They can also be reached at any time during an active call.
  • Add more than 70 new characters for Emoji, including new characters with red, gray and curly hair, new Emojis for bald characters, more emotional smileys and additional Emoji representing animals, sports and food.

watchOS 5.1 & tvOS 12.1

At the same time, Apple released watchOS 5.1 for Apple Watches. Audio calls for up to 32 people appear on the brand’s watches, in addition to a new dial and more than 70 Emoji. Finally, tvOS 12.1 brings performance improvements and bug fixes to Apple TVs.
