Free up space on your hard drive and recover lost disk space!
We all have our little techniques to optimize the space available on our hard drive. But some simple manipulations save a little more space. In addition to conventional cleaning tools like the tool built into Windows or Ccleaner, here are three other techniques to save a little more space with each tool.
Sort your system files with Windows Cleanup Tool
Click the Start button and type ” Cleaning In the search box. In the results that appear, choose ” Disc cleaning“. If you have multiple discs, select the disc to clean and launch the tool. Once the scan is complete, you will see a list of files to delete including the Recycle Bin and temporary files for example. Then click on the ” Clean up system files Located a little lower and wait a second time for the scan to finish. You will now be able to delete previously ignored system files such as Windows Service Pack Backup files, Windows Update files, or Windows temporary installation files.
Remove duplicate files
If you have not already installed it, download CCleaner and install it. Once the software is launched, you can do the standard cleaning to get rid of the files left by the Windows tool … but not only. When handling files, photos, documents or others, it sometimes happens that we voluntarily or not create copies. From the left column of the software, click on Tools> Find Duplicate Files. Select the drive to clean then launch the scan by pressing Search, then select the duplicate files you want to delete.
Reduce Windows backup space
Windows by default makes backups of your system which are useful in case of problems. If however you are an expert, you can either reduce the space allocated to these backups, or simply deactivate them. Click on the Start button then on Settings> System> System Protection. In the menu that appears, you have the option of reducing the space allocated for backups by adjusting the slider or deactivating backups. Please note: by pressing OK, the system will not only deactivate all backups but will also purge existing backup files.
